Ferrante, Joan, Holmdel

1033

It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Ferrante announces the passing of their beloved mother on Dec. 28, 2018.

Born in Paterson in 1931, Joan relocated to the Jersey Shore after marrying her husband of 40 years, Joseph Ferrante. She raised four children in Holmdel, providing each of them with both a vision for their life’s work and a strong faith. She was a remarkable cook, an avid reader, enjoyed attending bible study and teaching her grandchildren how to play Liverpool. They tenderly called her Mimi.

Joan is predeceased by her husband Joseph and an infant son Joseph. She is survived by a son and three daughters: Dr. Joseph Ferrante and his wife Mina of Burbank, California; Joan Ferrante-Rich and her husband Jeffrey of Manhattan; Dina Smyth and her husband Sean of Shrewsbury; Elena Ferrante-Martin and her husband Michael of Las Vegas; and 10 grandchildren: Jonathan, Madeleine and Harrison Rich, Sam and Nicolas Smyth, Micangelo, Angelina and Joseph Paul Ferrante and Lillie and Luke Martin. Joan is also survived by her brother Douglas Van Blarcom and his wife Rosemary of Toms River.

Visitation and a Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 3 at Holy Cross Church, 30 Ward Ave., Rumson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Joan may be made to The Bowery Mission, 227 Bowery, New York, NY 10002.
