Joy, Maureen A., Age: 81, Newark

918

Maureen A. Joy, 81, entered eternal rest on Jan. 3 surrounded by the love of her life, Bud, and her loving family. Maureen was born in Newark to the late Richard Gill and Mary Dorish. Maureen’s devotion to her Catholic faith was a guiding light for her entire life. She was a shining example of one of Christ’s children, living her faith and sharing true kindness to all those around her. Maureen’s greatest joys and proudest moments revolved around the family that she and Bud built. Their marriage was filled with true love and happiness – she was his “Irish Rose” and he was her one and only. Maureen’s four daughters were the pride of her life and she shared in so many happy moments with them as they grew and built families of their own. Her seven grandchildren brought her joy and happiness and her beautiful spirit will live in their hearts forever.

Maureen loved dancing, anything and anyone Irish or Scottish, reading, cooking, storytelling, a great musical on Broadway, gardening, traveling, the Maine coast, Marco Island, and was famous for her Thanksgiving stuffing and meatloaf. Most of all Maureen loved her husband, Bud, the one and only love of her life, and the family they built. Maureen is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Morton D. Joy; her loving daughters and their spouses, Cynthia Joy and her partner Sue McClure; Tricia Joy Cundari and her husband Phil; Diane Joy Belforti and her husband Michael; and Elizabeth Joy Sutphin and her husband Travis. She leaves behind her adoring grandchildren Christina and Philip Cundari; Shannon, Corey, Morgan and Ryan Belforti; and Connor Sutphin. Maureen also had one surviving brother, James Gill, and leaves behind many in-laws and nieces and nephews. Her family is comforted to know that Maureen has now entered everlasting life in heaven and has joined her first set of twins, Mary and Joseph, her parents and many relatives and friends who loved her here on earth.

Visitation took place at the John E. Day Funeral Home in Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Jan. 6 at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Red Bank. The family invites you to join them in sending donations in Maureen’s memory to Red Bank Catholic High School, 112 Broad Street, Red Bank, NJ 07701.
