Donald E. Magee, 64, of Tinton Falls, passed away on Sunday, October
4 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. He was born in Plainfield to the late William and Maylouise Magee.
Don valued the years that he worked daily with his father and partner at Clayton & Magee, a men’s and boys’ clothing store located in downtown
Red Bank until 1999. He was currently employed at Wegmans in Manalapan for many years.
Don received a BA from the University of Denver and a MA from the University of Southern California, both in the study of American Culture
and a culinary degree from The French Culinary Institute in SoHo, NYC. He had been teaching, writing about and researching food history for the
last 25 years. He so enjoyed doing weekly food articles published in the Two River Times under Amuse Bouche.
He was an avid fan of the visual arts, had a passion for travel, enjoyed many New York walking tours, and was always fascinated by the history of
everything. He was rarely seen without his camera and was always posting away on his blog.
Over the years he was involved in many nonprofit organizations in the community which were a veryimportant part of his life. He was so
honored to be a former board president of 180, Turning Lives Around, and a former board president of the
Art Alliance of Monmouth County, and involved on the boards for the Red Bank River Center, Monmouth
County Arts Council, Red Bank Retail Trade Board, and serving as a past commodore of the Shrewsbury Sailing and Yacht Club.
Don is survived by his wife and best pal, Mary Magee; and his sweet Ginger Girl golden retriever; his sister-in-law, Claire Hoffman ofAllentown, Pa.; his beloved Australian family, Rhonda and Roger Hoare and Pippa and Trent Merrett; and a sister, Lois, wife of Frederick Zehr and family of Colorado Springs, Colo.
A Memorial Gathering and service was held on Wednesday, October 7 at the Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be made to 180, Turning Lives Around, 1 Bethany Rd,
Hazlet, NJ 07730 or the Art Alliance of Monmouth County, 33 Monmouth
