Middletown Remembers 9/11

748

MIDDLETOWN – The Middletown Memorial Gardens are a tribute to the 37 residents who died in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Every year since, many have gathered here in a reverent ceremony to “never forget.”

It is a silent service, with no words spoken, followed by the tolling of a single bell and the pipes of a single bagpiper.  Some shed tears, reflecting their feelings of deep sorrow for those lost to the tragedy. Relatives and friends of the fallen were present, as well as many firemen, policeman, and veterans and government officials.

After the piper finished, those gathered walked through the marble arch and walked along the path, past the 37 personalized marble monument markers, one for each person that lost their life at the World Trade Center. People stopped and stood at their loved one’s  monument to remember and mourn. Some left flowers, some stroked the monuments.

Visitors are welcome at the Middletown WTC Memorial Gardens everyday from dawn to dusk.  The gardens are located next to the Middletown Arts Center at 36 Church Street.
