Joan A. Oberlin, 73, of Middletown, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home on Thursday, June 16. She was born Joan A. MacKenzie on October 26, 1942 in Orange, where she grew up. On February 14, 1962, Joan and her husband, Arthur, were married and began their life together. In 1967, they moved to Hazlet to raise their family. In 1988, they relocated to Colts Neck, and in 1997 settled in Middletown. Before retirement, Joan worked as a paralegal for a law firm in Red Bank. She also loved playing Bingo with family and friends, and taking trips to Atlantic City.

She was predeceased by her parents, Mac and Ruth (James) MacKenzie. Joan is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 54 years, Arthur E. Oberlin; her loving children, Deborah Sunyak and her husband, Stephen, of Randolph, Donna M. Scully of Sparta, Arthur E. Oberlin Jr. and his wife, Rosemaria, of Hazlet, and Allen William Oberlin and his wife, Diane, of Lincoln Park. Joan is also survived by her dear siblings, Judith (Judy) Gildawie, James (Jimmy) MacKenzie and his wife, Kathleen, John (Jackie) MacKenzie, and Lynn O’Rourke; her cherished grandchildren, Courtney Poretskin and her husband, Dustin, Stephen Sunyak, Sara Oberlin, Daniel Scully, Liam Scully, Sean Scully, Olivia Oberlin, and Ava Oberlin; and her adored great-grandchildren, DJ and Kennedy Poretskin.
