RB Gas Leak Causes Evacuations, Situation Cleared Almost 2 Hours Later

RED BANK – The situation was cleared by noon but for about two hours this morning emergency workers were dealing with a gas leak on Ambassador Drive.
As a precaution, students from Tower Hill School, residents from a block of condominiums and a funeral in progress at the First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank, Tower Hill, church were evacuated while the gas leak was in progress.
Red Bank Fire Department 2nd Deputy Chief Thomas Welsh said the situation was caused when a contractor working in the area broke a gas main.
New Jersey Natural Gas was called and responded to the scene quickly. The line was capped by 11:30 a.m. Company workers declared the situation clear by noon and those evacuated were allowed to return.
No injuries were reported
