Schmertz, William C. , Age: 77, Red Bank

William “Bill” C. Schmertz, 77, of Red Bank, passed away peacefully on October 16 with his family
by his side. Bill was a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His grandchildren
want people to know how very much they will miss his “awesomeness.”

He cherished every moment he spent with his family. He was born in Trenton on
July 17, 1938. He spent most of his younger years in Caldwell and moved to Colts Neck in 1970. He
has resided in Red Bank for the last 16 years. A graduate of Upsala College, Bill worked as a systems analyst/ consultant and also held positions in marketing and construction management.

He was an avid supporter of Red Bank Catholic High School sports. He will truly be missed by parents and athletes alike at the many games he loved to attend. He especially enjoyed coaching a team in the Jersey Shore Basketball League for many years. Penn State and Giants football
games were never missed. He enjoyed many years of golf and was a past board member at Beacon Hill Country Club in Atlantic Highlands. He served as a deacon at Shrewsbury Presbyterian Church and has been an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Red Bank (Tower Hill) for over 20 years. He had a gift for relating to anyone he met, being interested in their lives and letting them know he appreciated them and truly cared for them. We know that he will always be a part of the many lives he touched. Our hearts are truly broken but we are confident he is at peace
with our Lord.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Alberta Schmertz (Farlee). He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his daughter, Deborah and her husband Steve; his son, William and his wife Erin. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Kelly and Sean Burke and William C. Schmertz III (Liam); his brother, Edward Schmertz; his sister, Reverend Marie Paterik; and brother, David Schmertz.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, October 24 at 11:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Red Bank (Tower Hill).

Memorial gifts may be given to Red Bank Catholic College Scholarship Fund or the “Faith Forward” Campaign at the First Presbyterian Church of Red Bank.
