Frank J. Sodano, 97, of Holmdel, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 15 at The Willows Assisted Living, Holmdel, with his niece, Christine Fitzgerald, by his side. Frank served in the 774 Tank Battalion, known as the “Black Cat Tankers.” He was in the European Theatre at Normandy Ardennes, the Battle of the Bulge and The Rhineland and Northern France. He was truly our family hero.

Frank was an active sportsman. As a boy and throughout his life he enjoyed baseball and basketball, was a competitive bowler and a huge fan of the Yankees and the Giants. One of his greatest experiences was being at the greatest NFL games ever played: Baltimore Colts – 23, New York Giants – 17, in overtime, Championship game 1958. And we can’t leave out his love for the ponies at Monmouth Park.

Frank was predeceased by his parents, Christine and Joseph Sodano; his sisters, Jean Hobbs, Anne, Josephine, Rose and Dora Sodano; and a beloved nephew, Walter Hobbs. He is survived by his three nieces and two nephews, Mary E. Dayback of Hazlet, Christine Fitzgerald of Aberdeen, Virginia Sisko of Linden, Joseph Hobbs of Louisville, Kentucky and Mack Hobbs of Atlanta, Georgia.
