Maria Ortiz Torres, 80, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully
surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, September 20 at
Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. She was born Maria
Ortiz on August 2, 1935 in Playa de Ponce, Puerto Rico,
where she grew up. On December 18, 1954, Maria and her
husband, Andres, were married and began their life
together in Puerto Rico. A few years later in 1957, they
moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., to raise their family. In 2006, they
ultimately settled in Hazlet.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mario and Eduviges
(Rodriguez) Ortiz; and her daughter, Wanda Torres.
Maria is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years,
Andres Torres; her loving children, Zulma Agridiano and
her husband Anthony of East Stroudsburg, Pa., Andres Torres III and his wife Denise of
Hamburg, N.Y., and Xiomara Ferrigno and her husband Rocco of Hazlet; and her dear siblings,
Lydia Santos, Mario Ortiz and Ramona Torres. Maria is also survived by her cherished
grandchildren, Kisha, Keana, Tatum, Juan, Jose Andres, Ashley, Andres IV, Amanda,
Toni Ann, Taylor Marie and Rocco Jr.; and her adored great-grandchildren, Jayden Michael,
Anthony, Deonna, Isabel, Jaelyn and Jacklyn Wanda. She will be sadly missed, but
never forgotten.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 23 and Thursday, September 24 at the Shore
Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Hazlet. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered
on Thursday, September 24 at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Interment followed
at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y.
