Frederick Charles Westphal, 61, of Rocky Mount, N.C., passed away at his home on October 11. Fred was born in Orange, lived in
Rumson then New Orleans and North Carolina. He was a graduate of Lawrenceville Prep School, attended Washington and Lee
University. He graduated from Tulane University with a degree in geology and advanced mineralogy and uranium. He received his MBA
from Tulane University. Fred worked with Gulf Oil and Exploration as a petroleum geologist.
He then went on to work with Exxon in their minerals department as a uranium field geologist.
He enjoyed jogging and physical exercise. He played football and baseball. He was a “Big Brother” in New Orleans and a disc jockey in college.
Fred had a strong love of animals and was always bringing something home – much to his mother’s chagrin.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick A. and Lois Ann Westphal; and his brother-in-law, Thomas Carmen Cosentino. He is survived
by his two sisters, Sarah Westphal Cosentino of Melbourne, Fla., and Elizabeth Card and her husband Edward of Little Silver; two nieces
Samantha Cihal and her husband Jason and Tiffany Card and nephew Evan Card. Also blessed by a long and loving relationship with his Uncle
Charlie and Aunt Mary Kay Arliss, and his loving cousins Jane, Charlie, Lise, Jeffrey, Scotty and Jimmy Arliss.
Many wonderful Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter celebrations with the Arliss’ brought him wonderful memories.
Visitation was held on Saturday, October 17 with a memorial service at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Interment was private.
