As preparations get underway and the excitement for Super Bowl XLVIII rises, Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden wants to ensure that game day will be a safe day for all to enjoy.
“It’s an honor for New Jersey to have been chosen to host Super Bowl XLVIII,” Golden said. “While everyone is enjoying the football festivities, our focus will be on maintaining public safety throughout the weekend, for those who live, work or will be visiting Monmouth County.”
As the Super Bowl approaches, law enforcement will have an increased awareness. Two Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office K-9 teams specializing in explosives detection have been assigned to NFL detail through Sunday.
As countless people take to the roads to watch the game or even attend the Super Bowl, it’s crucial to stay sober and not drink and drive.
In an effort to avoid presenting a danger to oneself or others, it’s important to follow these safety tips:
- Before going out, designate a driver who will not consume any alcohol the entire night.
- Do not drive if you are impaired. Call a cab, a sober friend or family member.
- If you don’t have a ride, stay where you are.
- If you see someone about to get behind the wheel or on a motorcycle after they have been drinking, take their keys and find them a ride with someone who is sober.
- Under no circumstances should adults provide alcohol to a minor or allow anyone under 21 to consume alcohol at their home.
- If you are hosting a party, be aware of just how much guests are consuming and do not let them get behind the wheel while impaired.
