OCEANPORT – On Sunday afternoon, motorists found they had to share the road with an unusual mode of transportation, as a horse from Monmouth Park bolted from the facility and headed down Route 36.

OCEANPORT – Monmouth Park’s 80th season will get underway this weekend, featuring 51 stakes worth $7.8 million. Ahead of opening day May 10, racetrack officials hosted a press conference to discuss ongoing projects at the park and the coming season.

OCEANPORT – Monmouth Park concluded its season Sept. 15 and recently announced some coveted season titles.

An ambitious plan to secure Monmouth Park’s financial future moved forward last week as plans to construct a mixed-use development entered the design phase. At the same time, racetrack officials signed an 85-year lease.

A break in the humidity left many feeling like Saturday was a perfect summer day. For trainer Danny Gargan, it was the perfect day, as jockey Luis Saez rode Belmont Stakes-winner Dornoch to victory in the $1,000,000 NYRA Bets Haskell Stakes. With a talented field of horses, this year’s Haskell Stakes lived up to the pre-race excitement.

They come every summer, despite the heat, feasting on hot dogs and steaks, ice-cold beer and custom cocktails. But while the food is great, they are really here for one reason – to see the horses run. And this Saturday, Monmouth Park hosts the jewel of the racing season, the $1,000,000 NYRA Bets Haskell Stakes.

With the 79th racing season underway at Monmouth Park, leadership is excited about ongoing developments at the racetrack, including more special event days and the groundbreaking on a new sportsbook facility.

May 4 saw the running of the 150th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. That race delivered on all the excitement, with Mystic Dan edging out Sierra Leone and Forever Young by a nose in the first three-way photo finish since 1947.

Since no Northeast teams made it to the championship, during this year’s Super Bowl, most Two River-area residents likely enjoyed the thrill of the sport, the food, the commercials, the music and even Taylor Swift sightings. But there was a portion of the audience whose emotions may have been riding on another aspect of the game – the final score.

The borough hall was packed for Oceanport’s reorganization meeting as officials were sworn in, honors were doled out, and a new mayor took his seat on the dais.
