FREEHOLD — Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni will not have to spend nearly a year’s deployment in Afghanistan as previously thought.
Gramiccioni, as a lieutenant commander in the Naval Reserve, had received orders earlier this year to start a nine-month active duty deployment on Aug. 9. But those orders have been rescinded, the prosecutor’s office announced.
The prosecutor’s office offered no explanation for the cancellation.
Gramiccioni, 41, a Wall resident, was named acting prosecutor last July. Earlier in his career, he had been an active duty naval officer, working as a defense counsel and prosecutor for the Navy’s Judge Advocate General (JAG).
The canceled orders had directed him to begin combat zone orientation in August, with his overseas deployment beginning Sept. 6.
