In December 2002, Red Bank Regional High School senior, Katy Trotter, had the best showing in Shore Conference history when she finished second overall at the National High School Cross Country Championships in San Diego,
Now Katy Trotter, DPM, one of the most accomplished high school runners to ever come out of New Jersey has returned to the East Coast to join the practice of renowned sports podiatrist John Connors, DPM, in Little Silver.
After completing her college career, Trotter decided that she wanted to study medicine and attended the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago. “I have always been interested in medicine but was not committed to going to medical school for the majority of my college career,” said Trotter. “I had exposure to podiatry growing up in Little Silver with Dr. Connors, but it was not until after I graduated from Stanford that I realized podiatric medicine was the career for me.”
Trotter moved to Chicago after completing her degree at Stanford to study medicine. “I liked having the concentration of foot and ankle medicine and surgery at the initiation of graduate school as it was a purposeful four years of studying towards the career,” she added. “Medical school is challenging enough and seeing the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ helped me to succeed throughout school and residency.”
“Coming from a highly competitive sporting career, Katy understands the demands of the high end athlete and values the urgency to get people back on track,” said Connors. “Katy is highly trained to manage all conditions of the foot and ankle and we’re are excited to have her be part of our orthopedic centered practice.”
New Jersey has always and will always be “home” to Trotter. “On a personal level, my family resides in the Northeast and being close to them is a large part of my happiness,” says Trotter, who also spends much of her time speaking to high school athletes and running groups about preventing injuries.
“In a professional sense and having had some success with running, I feel like I am making a positive impact in this community. Fortunately, Dr. Connors and Dr. Sanz have built and welcomed me to a practice that is the ultimate marriage of my interests.”
