The Oceanic Bridge will be closed on Monday, October 17 so the county can begin repair work on the drawbridge that spans the Navesink from Locust to Rumson. The bridge will be closed until Memorial Day 2012.
Alternate routes for those who regularly use the bridge include the Sea Bright Bridge (Rumson to Sea Bright) and the Highlands Bridge (Sea Bright to Highlands and Bayshore communnities). Drivers heading across the river to Rumson, Fair Haven Red Bank and surrounding communities may use Navesink River Road to Rt. 35 and cross the river on Cooper Bridge.
County officials have said that severe deterioration of the bridge necessitates the temporary closing. The bridge is scheduled for replacement in the next 10 years.
