Robert Allen Patterson, 77, of Oceanport passed away at Riverview Medical Center on Tuesday, August 25 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Red Bank and has lived in Oceanport for the past 50 years. Robert was a retired union carpenter for Local Union 2250 in Red Bank. As an avid hunter and fisherman, he was a lifelong member of the Sunrise Rod and Gun Club and the Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club. Robert was a 1956 graduate of Red Bank Regional High School and attended University of Dayton and Austin Peay University after many scholarship offers to play college basketball.
He was predeceased by his parents, William F. and Eva H. Patterson; his brothers, William F. Patterson Jr. and Vernon Patterson; and two sisters, Eva Tibbals and Pauline Fehlhaber. Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Kathleen Nelligan Patterson; four children, Robert A. Patterson Jr. and Susan of Wall, Kathleen P. Sempkowski and Tony of Oceanport, Kenneth M. Patterson and Patricia of Lincroft and Deborah P. Looney and William of Avon; a sister, Dorothy M. Ball of Lincroft; and 10 grandchildren, Kenneth Patterson, Stacy Patterson, Megan Patterson, Anthony “T.J.” Sempkowski Jr., Robert A. Patterson III, Kathleen Sempkowski, Paige Sempkowski, Jenna Sempkowski, Jake Looney and Ava Looney.
Visitation was held on Friday, August 28 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. A Funeral Home Service was conducted on Saturday, August 29. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Robert’s name to the American Diabetes Association, Center Pointe II, Suite 103, 1160 Route 22 East, Bridgewater, NJ 08807.
