LITTLE SILVER – The Red Bank Regional (RBR) Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) dance majors will present their Spring Dance Concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, and 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, in the RBR Theatre at 110 Ridge Road.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. The spring show features 46 dance majors presenting more than 20 numbers in a mix of dance styles including hip-hop, modern, jazz and contemporary numbers.

The program was choreographed primarily by the student dancers with several numbers created by guest alumni choreographers who are dance professionals. They are: Jessica Berube, Little Silver; Kali Drake, Union Beach; Sarah Goodhue, Oceanport; Cara France, Little Silver; and Alex Vari, Woodbridge. Alex’s mom, Barbara Vari, a dance studio owner, also has a piece in the show. Barbara Vari has worked often with RBR students in the past and was specially requested by this year’s senior class to work on its last concert at RBR.

One of the show’s student choreographers, senior Audrey Carroll of Shrewsbury, intends to minor in dance at Drew University next year and major in biological anthropology with the goal of becoming a physical therapist. She choreographed a contemporary ballet to “Bitter Sweet Symphony” by the English alternative rock band, The Verve.

“It is a very fluid classical piece punctuated with modern drum beats,” Carroll said. “I am so excited to be able to choreograph this to music, which is something I have wanted to do since freshman year.”

The student dance majors have had a very busy school year, giving at least 12 separate performances, many for school and community events, including among others, the Woman’s Club of Little Silver, the Little Silver PTO, the Sunday Showcase with Tim McLoone and the Shirleys and Black History Month.
