LITTLE SILVER – Expect to see a new Republican member of the Borough Council in the next few weeks.
Dr. Richard Scott submitted his resignation, Mayor Robert Neff Jr. announced at Monday evening’s council meeting.
Scott, an orthopedic surgeon, has moved to Chicago, Ill., to take a new job.
Scott was elected in 2012.
“He did a wonderful job for the borough,” said Neff, noting Scott’s service on the six-member council as well as his previous work as a member of the borough planning board.
The borough’s Republican committee has 15 days to meet with the Monmouth County organization to come up with a list of three candidates to be submitted to the council for consideration, according to borough attorney Meghan Bennett Clark.
Once council members receive the list, they will have 15 days to vote on a new council member, Clark said.
Neff said he was unaware of who could be included on the candidates’ list.
The governing body has five Republicans, one Democrat and a Republican mayor.
