Songfest to Honor Memory, Music of Pete Seeger

190

LINCROFT – This year’s Songfest on Saturday, July 19, will be held in honor and in spirit of the renowned Pete Seeger who died this January.
His friend, composer/guitarist Jim Scott, will pay tribute to Seeger through songs, beginning at 7 p.m., at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County, 1475 W. Front St.
Seeger, an iconic American folksinger and activist, has an enormous legacy, including famous songs such as “If I Had A Hammer,” “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” and “Turn, Turn, Turn,” among many others.
Scott, who collaborated on many projects with the folk legend, will lead the audience in an evening of stories and lots of singing celebrating Seeger’s 94 years of life. Known to many as the guitarist with the Paul Winter Consort, Scott is a prolific composer in his own right. He compiled and arranged more than 100 songs of earth and peace by many contemporary composers, including Seeger.
The event is open to the public and is appropriate for all ages.
The suggested donation is $10 to $15. Tickets can be bought at the door.
