ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS – The Arc of Monmouth will return Friday, Dec. 6, to Atlantic Highlands’ Shore Casino for its 47th annual Winter Glow Ball, which supports health care, employment, education and other services for over 1,300 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Funds from the event also will help to complete uninsured structural repairs to The Arc’s Work Opportunity Center, flooded during Super Storm Sandy.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., the formal affair will feature hors d’oeuvres and cocktails, a sit-down dinner, silent and live auctions, and dancing to live music by Total Soul.
Following severe storm damage, the Shore Casino has been remodeled and provides top-notch food and service, as well as breathtaking views of New York Harbor and Sandy Hook Bay.
This year’s honorees are Maureen and John Lloyd, who have provided invaluable support to many local charities through their involvement with Meridian Health and the Monmouth Park Charity Fund. Over the years, John Lloyd has lent his auctioneer talents to the Winter Glow Ball, and Maureen Lloyd served as a school nurse at The Arc of Monmouth, where she was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2006.
A new award has been created in honor of Countess Anatole Buxhoeveden, who founded the Winter Glow Ball in 1966. The inaugural Countess’ Award is being presented to The Hilton Family (the Rev. Hank, James, Sarah and cousin Alex Rogers), who have provided fundraising and volunteer service to The Arc of Monmouth for more than 40 years.
“One year ago, the 46th Winter Glow Ball was disrupted by Super Storm Sandy, which flooded both the Shore Casino and The Arc’s Work Opportunity Center (WOC),” said event chairwoman Anita Roselle. “We celebrate the fact that Shore Casino has recovered from their damage, and WOC is now partially reopened thanks to the contributions of many generous individuals, and hope that supporters will help us to complete the over $100,000 in further repairs needed to protect WOC from future damage.”
