TRT Takes Home Prizes in Newspaper Contests

RED BANK – The Two River Times staff members have been awarded prizes in journalism contests sponsored by the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists and the New Jersey Press Association.
Photo editor Scott Longfield earned six awards in the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists’ Excellence in Journalism Award for work done in 2013 in the Magazines, blogs, Newsletters and Photojournalism category. Longfield  was awarded a first and second place in sports photos for photos called “Flag Final” and “We are Number 1,” respectively; a first and second in features for photos ”Best Buddies” and “New Beginnings” and a second and third place for spot news photos titled, “Up in Smoke” and “Oooops!”
In the New Jersey Press Association Contest for weekly newspapers under 6,500 for work done in 2013, The Two River Times was awarded first and second place for Packaging the News – Feature Section Layout and Content. First prize was awarded to the staff, page designer Cyndy Mernick and Michele J. Kuhn for the Home & Garden section of April 12, 2013. Second place for the TRT Tastings section of March 15, 2013, was awarded to page designer Cyndy Mernick, Michele J. Kuhn, Longfield and the staff.
In the category Reporting, Writing & Illustration, John Burton won second place for Fresh Approach to Routine Reporting for his story, “A House Raising Experience” and Judy O’Gorman Alvarez won second place for “Creating the Shine for the High Holy Days in Rumson” for Special Subject Writing.
The Two River Times also was awarded first place for Best Digital House Ad for “The Website That’s All About You” by Chris Draper and Scott Longfield. That contest included all newspapers in the state.
Draper additionally was awarded third place for Best Auto Ad – Weekly for “Mazda Spring Sale.”
