RED BANK – Phoenix Productions, the award-winning community theater organization, will present the hit Broadway musical, “White Christmas,” for two weekend, beginning Friday, Nov. 15, at the Count Basie Theatre.
Based on the classic Bing Crosby movie, “White Christmas” boasts a score chock-full of the best melodies of Irving Berlin, America’s beloved composer including “Blue Skies,” “Happy Holidays,” “Snow,” “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm” and “White Christmas.”
The well-known story involves World War II veterans Bob and Phil, a successful song-and-dance team, who follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en route to their Christmas show in Vermont, where they encounter their former commanding officer who is now doing a bad job of running an inn. The men go on to save the inn and win the sisters.
The Phoenix revival features a cast of 40 area performers led by Jennifer Grasso of Highlands and Mike Morch of Wall. Also featured in the cast of Laura Gelford and Ian Brown-Gorrell of Manhattan, Paul Caliendo of Point Pleasant, Sarah Coleman of Holmdel and Nicole Picinic of Manahawkin.
“This is perfect show to put the whole family into a holiday mood,” says director Anthony Greco. “The sets and costumes are lavish, and the production numbers featuring some very accomplished dancers just keep coming one after another. It would take a true Scrooge not to leave the theater full of Christmas spirit.”
Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank from Nov. 15 – 24. Tickets, priced at $20 to $32, can be purchased at the Count Basie box office, ordered by phone at 732-842-9000 or ordered online at www.countbasietheatre.org.
