RED BANK – As part of its commitment to safety, The Community YMCA at 166 Maple Ave., is again offering Learn to Swim Week, a water safety program for our friends and neighbors in the community.
The five-day program, held June 24-28, is offered to first time participants of all ages who have little or no swimming ability. The annual program introduces the aquatic environment to beginners, teaches basic learn-to-swim skills and increases water safety awareness for families.
The Y provides this community outreach program each year to reduce the risk of drowning in our shore area and help all feel safe in and around water. Community program fee is $15 for the week of five lessons.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drownings are the leading cause of injury death for young children ages 1 to 4. Three children die every day as a result of drowning.
