New Jersey first lady Mary Pat Christie is encouraging volunteerism through the month as the state approaches the second anniversary of Super Storm Sandy.
Christie, who chairs the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, is reminding people in New Jersey and the region “that while there has been great progress across our state, there is still more work to be done and we still need help,” she said in a statement released Tuesday.
Christie is asking corporations, groups and individuals “to join us in marking two years since Sandy by volunteering to help families rebuild their lives and restore impacted communities.”
Volunteers have been vital in the recovery effort and many not-for-profit organizations working on recovery efforts still rely on their time, energy and talent, according to the relief fund.
Some of the organizations in Monmouth County the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund is suggesting the public contact about volunteer opportunities are:

  • Coastal Habitat for Humanity
  • Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County
  • Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties
  • Gateway Disaster Response Team
  • Rebuilding Together Jersey Shore
  • St. Bernard Project New Jersey

The relief fund has raised approximately $40 million in donations that have been awarded to 103 not-for-profit organizations helping more than 300,000 New Jersey residents.
