MIDDLETOWN – Police arrested a township man on Thursday, March 6, and charged him with attempted murder of a police officer.
Scott H. Knudsen, 24, Suffolk Lane, was additionally charged with aggravated assault of a police officer, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, resisting arrest and making terroristic threats, according to a criminal complaint township police forwarded to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities charged that Knudsen attacked officer Frank Mazza, a uniformed patrolman, with a lock-blade knife, repeatedly stabbing Mazza in the back, causing puncture wounds on the officer’s left shoulder.
Mazza was taken to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank for treatment, according to police.
Knudsen allegedly fought with officers, kicking them as they attempted to place him under arrest, police said. When he was transported to Riverview, Knudsen allegedly threatened medical staff, telling them “I’m going to come back to this hospital with an ax and just kill everyone when I get out,” according to the criminal complaint.
Superior Court Judge T. Mullaney set Knudsen’s bail at $530,000 without the option to post a 10 percent bond for the multiple offenses.
