SANDY HOOK – The National Park Service will host its 30th annual All Women Lifeguard Tournament on Wednesday July 30, at Gateway National Recreation Area at Sandy Hook.
The competition, the oldest and largest in North America, will be held at Sandy Hook’s Beach Lot E, with events beginning at 9 a.m. Check-in for contestants begins at 7:30 a.m.
The event will take place or shine, except in case of lightning.
The park service recommends spectators wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the beach in summer, as well as sunscreen.
The competition is open to women lifeguards at any beach, lake or pool. The competition’s 10 events highlight the fitness, skill strength and endurance of contestants in what is still a non-traditional job for women, “showcasing that smart, healthy women save lives,” according to a National Park Service press release.
