Gertrude “Gert/Gertie” Cammareri, 97, of Middletown and Atlantic Highlands, passed away Nov. 14 at home. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she resided there most of her life before moving to New Jersey.
Mrs. Cammareri worked in billing with the Bank of New York for many years before retiring at the age of 85. She was feisty with a kind and generous spirit, an example of Christian charity toward others. She enjoyed cooking and, most of all, time spent with her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
She was predeceased by her husband Andrew Cammareri in 1992, as well as her siblings. Surviving are her daughters Rose Cammareri and Adrienne Landri; her six grandchildren: Andrea, Kathryn, Christina, Vincent, David and Paul; her 14 great-grandchildren; and her beloved little malti-poo, Greta.
Visitation was held Nov. 21 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral Liturgy was offered Nov. 22 at St. Mary’s Chapel, Middletown. Entombment followed at St. John’s Cemetery in Middle Village, New York.
In lieu of flowers the family requests Mass cards and prayers offered for Gertrude or donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
