Barbara A. Cortese, 68, of Tinton Falls, passed away Aug. 4, 2021, at Centra State Hospital. Barbara was born Feb. 2, 1953, to the late Joseph, a New Jersey State Trooper, and Magdalene Hall.
Barbara attended Monmouth Regional High School and Brookdale Community College and went on to be a manager with Acme Food Markets. Later she became a toll collector with the Port Authority of NY and NJ. After retiring she opened and operated a pet grooming shop, Bark Avenue Tails.
Barbara loved animals, leaving behind one horse, three parrots and three cats. She was also a crafts person extraordinaire. If you would think of it, she could make it. She was also known to make a great batch of brownies.
She is survived by her loving brother William Hall and his wife Diana, her nephew Pete, niece Heather and her husband Jeff Green, and goddaughter Daniela and her husband Brett. Also surviving are many cousins and friends, Fran and Donna.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Joseph F. and Magdalene T. Hall, sister-in-law Carol and many beloved pets.
She will be sorely missed for her wit, playful sarcasm, love of family and animals and pride she had in her Native American and Hungarian heritage.
Visitation was held Aug. 8 at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. A service was held at the funeral home Aug. 9. Interment followed at Shoreland Memorial Gardens in Hazlet.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Barbara’s memory to the Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall St., Eatontown, NJ 07724.
