Richard “Skip” W. Smith Jr., 67, of New Bern, North Carolina, passed away at home Oct. 19, 2021.
He is survived by his beloved wife Virginia “Giga” Smith; sons Richard J. Smith (Jennifer) of Branchburg, and Christopher Smith (Nancy) of Glen Allen, Virginia; sisters Gail Blandeburgo of New Bern, North Carolina, and Victoria Kerr (Dwight) of Mesa, Arizona; and grandchildren Annabelle, Caleb, Abigail and Katherine.
Skip was the president of X.S. Smith Inc., a greenhouse manufacturing firm in Washington, North Carolina, until his retirement in 2018. He was a competitive sailor, racing on the open ocean for over 30 years. In his free time he was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 28 at Christ Episcopal Church. A celebration of life will follow the service at New Bern Country Club. A private memorial service will be held in Rumson at a date to be announced.
