Gretchen S. Coleman, 83, of Little Silver and formerly of Fair Haven, passed away peacefully Oct. 27, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born in New York City to the late Martin and Winifred Steinthal.

Gretchen attended the Convent of Sacred Heart in New York City and graduated from Marymount College. Gretchen was a warm and caring person. She could be counted on by family and friends in times of need. Gretchen enjoyed her summers at Monmouth Beach Club at the Coleman Cabana. She especially enjoyed her dinners at the Navesink Country Club with Peter and the Lewis Lane Crew. She spent hours volunteering at Lunch Break in Red Bank.

Gretchen was always dressed impeccably well. She loved her fall walks in her corduroys, cable knit sweater, down vest and Gucci loafers. Most importantly, Gretchen took the utmost pride in being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was known in Fair Haven for a smile on her face and a “pep in her step.”

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Peter J. Coleman and two sisters, Winifred Svikhart and Angela Steinthal.

Gretchen is survived by her three children, Peter J. Coleman Jr. (Bennett), Heidi Ferro (Jeffrey) and Gretchen O’Haire (Douglas); a brother Martin Bradley Steinthal (Kay); eight grandchildren, Riley, Caroline, Lily, Coleman, Jack, Patrick, Kylie and Henry; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

There was a visitation Oct. 31 at Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment was private.

Memorial donations can be made to the VNA Health Group at vnahg.org.
