Richard B. Simpson, 82, of Middletown, passed away Nov. 30, 2023, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Newark to Edgar Frank and Helen (Mills) Simpson. He lived in Middletown for over 44 years.
Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and Merchant Marines. He was a faithful Christian and loved spreading the word of God to everyone he encountered. Richard was a member of First Baptist Church, Red Bank, and New Monmouth Baptist Church, Middletown, actively serving both churches for many years.
Richard worked as an independent food distributor at Quality Enterprises, retiring in 2011. He was an avid reader with a thirst for knowledge. He loved going to the beach, traveling and watching football.
Richard was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Kathleen; daughter Amy Simpson-Lachky; son Stephen Simpson and wife Lauren Henry; grandchildren, Brittany, John and Sean Lachky, and Benjamin Simpson. He is also survived by sister-in-law Diana Simpson and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by his sister Patricia A. Kalips and his brother Dennis J. Simpson.
Visitation was held Dec. 5 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Funeral services were held Dec. 6 at the funeral home. Burial followed at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
