Teresa M. Scheuer

Teresa M. “Terry” Scheuer née Schaller, 89, of Barnegat, passed away Dec. 16, 2023.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Terry was the beloved wife of the late Frank Scheuer who sadly predeceased her in 2015, and mother of Frank Jr. and Eric (“the boys”).

Terry, Frank and the boys first made their home in Matawan and moved to Holmdel in 1970 to a house Frank helped design. In 2002, when Frank retired, they moved to Mirage Four Seasons in Barnegat.

Terry graduated from Bishop McDonnell High School and worked at the New York Mirror newspaper until her marriage to Frank in 1956. An avid cook and baker and a wonderful hostess, Terry was truly the heart of her family and her community. She was an ever-present basketball mom, rarely missing a game, a wonderful “Grams” to her much-loved grandchildren, Haley, Ian and Charles, and a loving and supportive sister and friend to her sisters, Margaret Anderson and Rosemary Byrne.

To her family, Terry was the “Queen of Christmas” and loved celebrating holidays and making them special for her family and friends, often with special gifts and cherished handmade ornaments. Terry was also generous with her time and always willing to help out as a volunteer whenever the brothers at Christian Brothers Academy (which both her sons attended) needed her assistance or the PTA or her local parish needed an extra hand. She loved joining in activities at The Mirage with Red Hats the Book Group and, of course, mahjong.

Terry is survived by her sons, Frank Scheuer Jr. and Eric Scheuer and his wife Sandra Scheuer; her beloved grandchildren, Haley, Ian and Charles; her sisters, Margaret Anderson and Rosemary Byrne; her nephew Christopher Anderson and his wife Ruth; and two very special grandnephews, Christopher and Matthew Anderson.

Her generosity and spirit will live on with her family and friends and she will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation was Dec. 21, 2023, at the Holmdel Funeral Home, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian burial, was held Dec. 22 at Church of St. Catharine, Holmdel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Terry’s name to De La Salle, The Brothers of Christian Schools, Development Office, P.O. Box 238, Lincroft, NJ 07738-0238. For messages of condolence, please visit Terry’s page of tributes at holmdelfuneralhome.com.
