Florence Carton, 97, of Highlands, passed away peacefully at home Feb. 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Newark and lived in Highlands for over 44 years.
During her younger years, Florence worked for Hoffman Beverage Company. She also volunteered with the Red Cross during World War II. She loved roller skating and gymnastics and was a member of the Turner Society. Her job then became wife and mother; she enjoyed being a homemaker for her growing family.
Surviving are her daughter Eileen Carton and her companion Michael Szragy; son Dr. James T. Carton and his wife Michelle; son Jonathan Carton and wife Jillian; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, with another on the way.
Florence was preceded in death by her beloved husband James in 2021.
Visitation was held Feb. 15 at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral liturgy was offered Feb. 16 at St. Catherine’s Church, Middletown. Burial followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
Arrangements are under the direction of John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
