Phyllis Alice Bergen passed away peacefully June 5, 2024, at the age of 72.
Born in the Bronx, Phyllis spent most of her life in Middletown with her husband Daniel. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother and grandmother who touched the lives of all who knew her. Her warmth, kindness and unwavering strength were the foundation of her family.
Phyllis had a passion for traveling with family and friends, gardening and dancing, activities that brought her immense joy and fulfillment throughout her life. Whether she was meeting cousins in Ireland for the first time, exploring the Amalfi Coast with precious friends, or dancing the night away with her nieces and nephews, she embraced every moment with enthusiasm and love.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandsons who adored her beyond measure. Phyllis treasured every moment with them, she loved them to the moon and back.
Phyllis is survived by her loving children, Erin (Kris) and Dan (Nadya) Bergen; her four cherished grandsons, Colton, Dylan, Jackson and Ronan; her sister Kathleen Walls; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Mary Leonard; her sisters, Eleanor Quinn and Judy Badman; her brothers, Frank and John Leonard; and her husband Daniel Bergen.
A memorial service to celebrate Phyllis’ life will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. June 22 at Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home, 1735 Route 35, Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to Phyllis’ heart.
