Nicholas E. Zennario, 82, of Middletown, known affectionately as Nick to his friends and family, passed away peacefully Nov. 11, 2024. Born Nov. 8, 1942, in North Jersey, Nick was a man whose life was characterized by dedication, kindness and a remarkable ability to fix just about anything. In 1955, he settled in Middletown, where he would go on to build a life filled with love, laughter and the joy of family.
Nick is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marie Zennario, with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished memories. Together they raised a family of strong and caring sons: Nicholas D., Joseph, and Robert. Nick was predeceased by his son Jason, whose memory he held close to his heart.
He was a loving brother to Rose Schmidt and Rita Smith; he was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Rita Zennario. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Bayley, Mason, Camryn and Kyah, and his great-granddaughter.
Nick proudly served his country in the Navy at the onset of the Vietnam War, a time that shaped his strong sense of duty and honor. After his service, he embarked on a career as a land surveyor with T&M Associates in Middletown. For 42 years, he was a respected figure in his field, known for his precision and reliability. Nick retired in 2013 with the closure of his department, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and expertise.
Nick and his wife Marie shared a love for the beach, where they spent countless hours enjoying the sun and the sea. He was a man of many talents, always ready to roll up his sleeves and tackle any project. Whether it was working on cars, repairing parts of the house or cultivating his prized vegetable garden, Nick’s handiness was unparalleled. His love for the outdoors extended to hunting, a pastime that allowed him to connect with nature and instill a sense of respect for the environment in his family.
Those who knew Nick will remember him as a kind and thoughtful man, always willing to lend a hand or offer sage advice. His presence was a source of stability and comfort to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Nick’s ability to listen and his willingness to help others were traits that endeared him to many and made him a pillar in his community.
Nick’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, devotion to family and the importance of taking time to enjoy simple pleasures. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories told by those who loved him, the projects he completed with such care, and the beautiful gardens he left behind.
As his family bids farewell to Nicholas E. Zennario, they celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by his generous spirit. Nick’s journey through life was marked by the love he gave and the love he received, a journey that will not be forgotten.
