RED BANK – When your loved one has health challenges requiring a greater level of assistance at home, Evolving Care in Red Bank can step in to help.
In business for 10 years now, Evolving Care, located on Drs. James Parker Boulevard, is a “boutique home care agency,” according to its website. Its longstanding success and quality of service stem from the diligence of its founder, Stephanie McCarter Flynn.
Flynn, a New Jersey native and Sea Girt resident, developed a passion for caring for others long before entering the workforce, in part due to her personal experience helping care for a family member with special needs. That experience inspired her to provide quality care for those who need it most, she said.
“The need of having good care in the home was always critically important; it gave me an appreciation for what good care could look like,” Flynn said.
After attending Lafayette College for English and art history and working in various positions, she gained a sense of business that would give her the drive and experience to found her own company. She used those newfound skills and confidence to become the sole proprietor of Evolving Care, an employment agency that specialized in in-home care.
“My client paid me a fee and I acted as an employment agency. I would get a call for a client who had dementia and I would dispatch a caregiver,” Flynn said.
But about eight years ago, New Jersey state regulations tightened the rules for firms specializing in health care. Flynn adapted her business to follow these new guidelines. “You cannot be an employment agency if you offer health services; you need to be a home health care service firm,” she explained.
Flynn and her business also achieved American Health Care Association accreditation, which not all businesses could accomplish at the time, and which would set her business apart from other firms. She also made sure her employees were available during the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing caretakers to visit their clients at home.
Flynn said the age 65 and older population, especially in Monmouth County, is one of the fastest-growing demographics. “They want to stay home, so the need for my business and the potential to grow is immense.”
Evolving Care also has a selective hiring process, Flynn said, adding that all employees must meet the required qualifications.
The company’s reputation brought Flynn longevity, as this year marks the 10-year anniversary of Evolving Care.
Flynn has also been involved in community advocacy and health care nonprofits, such as the Leon Hess Cancer Council. For the past 10 years, she has utilized her company and her multiple community-based platforms to advocate for the health needs of the vulnerable, she said. “I serve on the Monmouth County Senior Advisory (Council). Owning a whole health care company comes in handy when advocating for their health needs,” Flynn said. She is also coming up on her 10th year participating in the Swing Pink event for breast cancer awareness.
As for the future of Evolving Care, Flynn has expressed ambitions of perhaps opening a second location.
No matter what the future holds, Flynn said she will always stick to her primary goals of providing high-quality health services to the people she cares about the most, while advocating for the needs of the elderly and sick.
“My main goal is to serve my clients and to grow in the appropriate capacity with the correct employees,” she said.
The true strength of Evolving Care doesn’t just come from highly qualified caretakers but from the people her firm cares for, Flynn said. Evolving Care’s reputation is ultimately built upon a deep connection with the community she and her caretakers serve. “I’m very fortunate I have a referral base built on our reputation. I take pride in who I hire and build rapport and trust with my clients,” Flynn said.
