Dorothy Yerkes Armstrong, 99, of Lincroft, passed away Nov. 17, 2025, in her home of nearly 70 years.

Born Nov. 18, 1925, in Southampton, Pennsylvania, she was the oldest of three children born to Dorothy Decker and Albert H. Yerkes. She met her future husband, Theodore Armstrong, in high school. They were married in June 1944 before Ted went off to the Pacific on the USS Wisconsin. When the war ended, they lived in Hatboro, Pennsylvania, until 1955 when Ted’s job required them to move to New Jersey.

They settled into a new development in Lincroft and never moved again. Dorothy, or Dot as she was known by most of her friends, adapted to life in the suburbs, although she would always think of Pennsylvania as home. She was active in her church, a devoted mother and wife, a gifted seamstress, and a wonderful cook. She worked at Delicious Orchards for many years later in life. She was known for her sharp wit and generous heart.

In 2001, she lost her beloved Ted, but found incredible strength to continue to live a full life. She became a role model and inspiration to many as she traveled the world, served her church and found ways to help those in need.  She was the family matriarch and worked to keep everyone connected. She will be greatly missed.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Wendy Wolverton (Clark); granddaughters Kathy Posey, Brittany Anderson (Bodhi), Blair Love (Connor); great-grandchildren Taylor Posey (Sarah), Emily Meadow (Tyler), Hadleigh Anderson, and Owen Love; great-great-grandson Jonah Posey; beloved nephew Bill Yerkes; Barbara Diller and Diane Reynold.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Theodore Armstrong; brothers Albert Yerkes Jr. and William Yerkes; daughter Nancy Martellal; and grandson Daniel Martella.

Visitation was held Nov. 20 at the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

Dorothy’s final resting place will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Pennsylvania.
