Jerome C. “Jerry” Leary of Lincroft passed away peacefully Dec. 11, 2025, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank at the age of 94. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his devoted and loving wife, Joan Leary, and his family.

Jerry was predeceased by his father Jerome V. Leary, his mother Mary D. Leary and his sister Elizabeth T. Leary. He is survived by his wife Joan Sheehan Leary of Lincroft, his son Paul Leary of New Providence, his brother W. Stephen Leary of Vero Beach, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Plainfield and moved to Caldwell at an early age. He attended the local parish school, St. Aloysius, and was a 1949 graduate of St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, where he was a champion wrestler. He was a 1955 graduate of Mount St. Mary’s College and Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland. He was an active priest for 12 years. 

Jerry was a dedicated psychotherapist in Red Bank for many years. His work is known to have had a profound impact on countless individuals. He was also a published poet. His writings remain for inspiration and enjoyment.

Jerry was always warm and thoughtful to all, had a love of life and a wonderful sense of humor.  He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at St. Leo the Great Church in Lincroft at a time to be determined.
