Nicholas A. Giglio Jr., a lifelong resident of Middletown, passed away peacefully April 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication and deep love for his family and community.

Born June 23, 1955, Nicholas was raised in Middletown, where he spent his entire life and built strong roots within the community he so proudly served. He was a graduate of Middletown High School, Class of 1973.

Nicholas was the beloved husband of Penny, with whom he shared an extraordinary 53 years, including 47 years of marriage. They were married June 10, 1978. Their relationship was built on love, loyalty, and a deep partnership that carried them through life’s many chapters. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home, surrounded by family, friends, and countless cherished memories.

He began his career with the Middletown Township Road Department before serving with the United States Postal Service, from which he retired. Never one to slow down, Nicholas later worked as a school bus driver, enjoying the opportunity to remain active and connected to his community.

A man deeply devoted to the fire service, Nicholas dedicated over 50 years to protecting and serving others. He was a life member of the Atlantic Highlands Fire Department Hose Company No. 2 and Navesink Hook and Ladder Company No. 1 for more than five decades. Over the years, he proudly held the roles of lieutenant, captain and former captain of Squad 1, and served as president of Hose Company No. 2 for decades. He was also actively involved in the fair committees for both Atlantic Highlands and Navesink.

His commitment extended beyond the local level, serving as manager for Monmouth County at the New Jersey Firemen’s Home in Boonton, first vice president of the Monmouth County Firemen’s Association, and president of the Monmouth County Beneficiary Association. Nicholas was also a proud life member of the Middletown Elks Lodge #2179 for 37 years.

Outside of his many years of service, Nicholas truly enjoyed life. He loved everything related to the fire department, as well as camping, traveling, and taking exotic cruises. He enjoyed spending time in Atlantic City, taking rides on his golf cart, and was especially known for hosting his large annual Memorial Day barbecue, which brought together many people and created lasting memories.

Nicholas was predeceased by his father, Nicholas Giglio Sr.; his mother, Frances Smith; his brother Johnny and sister-in-law Mary; his beloved grandmother “Nanny”; his in-laws Tony and Ann Pasko; brothers-in-law Tony Pasko, Richard Pasko and Larry Scritchfield; and sister-in-law Linda Pasko.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Penny; his loving son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Erin; his cherished daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Pete; and his adored grandchildren, Colton and Hayden. He is also survived by his extended family, including Marianne and Tom, Rose, Carol, and Liz, along with 10 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family and friends were invited to pay their respects April 16 at Evergreen Memorial; a fire Department Prayer service concluded the evening. A funeral Mass was held April 17 at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in Atlantic Highlands. 

Nicholas A. Giglio Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, his generous spirit and the lasting impact he made on his family, friends and community.
