The Atlantic Highlands Library, 100 First Ave., will present Dead Beat Poets Society’s Poems From Childhood at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 19.
“Between the dark and the daylight, When the night is beginning to lower, Comes a pause in the day’s occupations, That is known as the Children’s Hour.” These memorable words were written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow about his children. The Dead Beat Poet Society is having its own children’s hour. Members will be reading poetry for children. Attendees are asked to bring poems loved as a child or poems that read to the young people.
The event, sponsored by the Friends of the Atlantic Highlands Library, is free and open to the public.
MIDDLETOWN
An open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at Deep Cut Gardens.
The Monmouth County Park System will offer guided tours, demonstrations and lectures at the gardens, located on Red Hill Road. Horticultural experts will be on hand to offer advice on orchids, daylilies and other plantings. Children will be invited to pot a plant, go on a scavenger hunt and make a butterfly craft.
Deep Cut Gardens is the park system’s site dedicated to the home gardener. Its 54 acres of gardens and greenhouses are a living catalog of cultivated and native plant materials.

RUMSON
Holiday Express supporters, Michaela and Jamie Wark of Rumson, will be hosting an evening of music, food and drink at their home to benefit the nonprofit group Holiday Express.
The event will take place 7:30 to 11 p.m. Friday, June 13. A limited number of tickets are available for this special event and are $150 per person. Dress is casual.
Tim McLoone & The Atlantic Coast Band and special guests will provide entertainment for the evening. Food and drink will include Jersey Shore-inspired favorites.
