Alfred L. Dodd Jr., known lovingly as Al, passed away peacefully at home Dec. 26, 2025, at the age of 70. Born Feb. 27, 1955, in Elizabeth, Al was the beloved son of the late Alfred and Mary Dodd. His gentle spirit, warm smile and kind heart will be deeply missed.
Al worked many jobs throughout his life but especially loved construction. He took pride in building with his hands and formed lasting friendships along the way. He was known for his kindness, patience and willingness to help others.
A devoted man of faith, Al was a cherished member of Jesus Fellowship Calvary Chapel in Leonardo. His favorite Bible verse (Isaiah 40:31) reflected the hope and strength that guided his life: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”
Al found peace in the outdoors, enjoying quiet walks in the woods, camping, spending early mornings gazing at deer and tending his garden. Gardening brought him a sense of calm and joy, much like nature itself. In quieter moments, he loved working on puzzles at home or at BoldAge PACE, a reflection of his thoughtful and patient nature.
Al is survived by his brother Edward Dodd, several nieces and nephews, close friends, and a loving church family. His life was marked by faith, friendship, and a love for Jesus, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A memorial service was held Jan. 4 at Jesus Fellowship Calvary Chapel, Leonardo.
