April Katherine Anderson, 79, of Fair Haven, passed away Sept. 3, 2024, of complications after multiple strokes.

April graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan, where she was a National Merit Scholar and excelled in art and mathematics. She earned a Bachelor of Science in physics from Wayne State University of Detroit. After graduation, she moved to New York and worked for the Link Group of General Precision in Pleasantville on programming for the Apollo Lunar Mission Simulator. Subsequently, she worked as a computer programmer for IBM in the Office Products Division.

After the birth of her son and her twin daughters, April was a busy, full-time caregiver to three young children. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She believed it was important to nurture her children and grandchildren, and she enjoyed helping them to develop their abilities and talents.

After the twins were born, April joined a local Mothers of Twins club and became involved with the state and national organizations dedicated to supporting parents of twins and higher-order multiples. April was the president of the New Jersey Association of Twins’ Mothers Club for two years. She was a volunteer worker for Multiples of America, the national organization, for 31 years in a variety of positions, including reviewing books on twin subjects and liaising with academic and medical researchers studying twins. She attended the annual convention of the national organization from the early 1980s until 2019. She was a life member of Mid-Jersey Moms of Multiples. She greatly valued her many friendships with other mothers across the state and country.

Besides her interests in science and social issues, April also had a keen interest in art and an appreciation of beautiful things, ranging from the seashells she collected, souvenirs from her trips, photos of her family, and blooms on the houseplants and perennials she nurtured.

April was predeceased by her parents, Frederick Thomas and Rosa Katherine Netting of Detroit, and by her brothers-in-law, James Paldan and Everett Jones.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Milton Anderson of Fair Haven; son Eric (Amber) Anderson of Red Bank; twin daughters Lisa (Galen) Camp of Bedford, New Hampshire, and Kirstin Anderson (Michael Hornberger) of Georgetown, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Leif Anderson, Violet Camp, Sean Hornberger and Katrin Hornberger; sister Diane Paldan of Detroit; brother Thomas (Elizabeth) Netting of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law Georgene Jones of Herreid, South Dakota; and brother-in-law Floyd (Marcia) Anderson of Apple Valley, Minnesota.

April was laid to rest at Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel, following a private family committal service. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to your preferred organization supporting mothers and babies is suggested. Arrangements are under the direction of Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank.
