Ara Nugent Tyler, 98, formerly of Fair Haven and Lancaster, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully Nov. 13, 2025, in Bedford, Massachusetts.
Ara was born in Norwalk, Connecticut. She graduated from Adelphi University with a Bachelor of Science in nursing and Harvard University with a master’s in education.
She began her career in nursing and later pursued her passion as a teacher. She taught in Middletown for over 30 years, where she delighted in guiding elementary students as they learned to read.
She was active as a volunteer and met her second husband, Francis Tyler, while they were fellow board members at Monmouth Day Care Center. After moving to Massachusetts, she became active in the choir at the First Parish Church in Bedford. She believed in giving back to the community and worked to effect positive change during her lifetime.
Ara was the beloved wife of the late Francis Tyler. She is survived by her brother, Wallace; daughters Pam and Betsy; as well as five grandsons and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Parish Church, Bedford, Massachusetts, or Monmouth Day Care Center, Red Bank.
