Kevin W. Attridge, beloved teacher and coach, died peacefully Dec. 16 at the age of 70 at Riverview Medical Center Hospice after a lengthy illness.

The son of John and Catherine Attridge, Kevin grew up in Shrewsbury and graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School and Mount St. Mary’s College, Emmitsburg, Maryland. After a brief stint at Red Bank Catholic, he was recruited to start the girl’s athletic program at Mater Dei High School where he dedicated his life as both a religion teacher and as a varsity coach for cross country, basketball and indoor track for 46 years. 

As a teacher, Kevin’s students learned the importance of spirituality and experienced a joy from their faith that would impact the rest of their lives. Kevin saw the best in everyone and helped everyone be their best. He inspired his teams to excel by trusting in God, their teammates and themselves.  

In addition to his parents, Kevin is predeceased by his brothers, Brian and John and his sister Maureen Hudson. He is survived by his devoted brother Richard and his wife Sondra; brother-in-law Michael Hudson; sister-in-law Linda Attridge; and loving nieces Martha, Eileen and Gwendolyn.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Dec 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Mary Mother of God Church, 19 Cherry Tree Farm Road, Middletown. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

The family requests that memorial donations be made in Kevin’s memory to “The Kevin Attridge Memorial Fund” in support of women’s athletics at Mater Dei Prep, 538 Church St., Middletown, NJ 07748.
