Lewis G. Augustine, 83, of Atlantic Highlands, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, January 10 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He was born in Atlantic Highlands and was a lifelong resident here.

Mr. Augustine retired as the director of IT Dept. in 2003 from IFF, Hazlet, after 47 years of service. He began there as a chemist and advanced to head the Research and Development Dept. and was instrumental in bringing the first computers into the company. He was also a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Air Force and received his bachelors degree in chemistry from Monmouth College in 1961.

Mr. Augustine was very proud of his Italian heritage and especially enjoyed the food and wine. He loved business and personal travel and had visited over 80 countries. He also enjoyed his vegetable garden and sharing the harvest with others. He was a member of the Atlantic Highlands High School Football Team which won the state championship in 1948.

Mr. Augustine was predeceased by his parents, Lewis V. and Alice Augustine. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Lobuzzetta Augustine; a son, Lew Augustine of Conifer, Colorado; two daughters, Anne Beckenstein of Jackson and Maria Augustine of Wilton Manors, Florida; and a sister, Alice Anderson of Atlantic Highlands. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Jule Valastyan, Michele Barnes and Cara Marczewski; along with seven great-grandchildren.
