Auston Dimitry

525

Auston “Audi” Dimitry, 56, of Middletown, a devoted friend and father who lit up every room he entered, died Oct. 3, 2025, from glioblastoma.

The world will be staggeringly less fun without him.

“He was a fighter. He loved life and his children, family, and friends, and we know his positive and unfailing spirit will survive in all he touched, especially his three remarkable children,” said his wife of 20 years, Eileen Dimitry.

Dimitry was born July 9, 1969, the only child of Philip and Nancy, in Jackson, Michigan. He was father to Mia, 19; Patrick, 16; and Charlotte, 12.

Auston always enjoyed learning and working. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1987 and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1991 from the University of Michigan. Later, he earned an MBA from UCLA. He held a New York State real estate license and was an active member of CoreNet Global.

Auston was never fearful of taking risks or traveling for new opportunities and therefore enjoyed varied early professional experiences. He began his professional career as a buyer for the May Company in Cleveland and New York City, but paused his career to return to Michigan to help care for his mother, who also suffered from glioblastoma. Later, he worked as an executive recruiting analyst for Spencer Stuart in Chicago. After completing his MBA, he worked for Harrah’s Entertainment in Las Vegas. In 1999, he moved to New York City to join G&D Trading as an options trader.

After a three-year courtship, Auston married Eileen Ranonis in 2005, and they began raising their young family in Hoboken. In 2014, they settled into a family-friendly community near the ocean in Middletown.

Auston steered his career into the field of commercial real estate, working for nearly a decade at Cushman Wakefield, developing RE portfolio strategies. He ended his career as managing director at Newmark in New York City. A gifted communicator, he was often called to speak on panels and forums throughout the country. He continued to work tirelessly through his illness; his last speaking engagement was at the Metro Denver Economic conference in Colorado in October 2022.

“Everyone Audi knew gained more friends and connections because of him,” his friend Laura Schooler said. “Basically, he had a voracious appetite for life.”

Auston was a devoted son and enjoyed several international trips with his dad, including to India, Australia and his Macedonian family’s village. Phil said, “He had a lot of adventure in him and was a great traveler.”

Auston loved music and connected with many people through a shared appreciation of classic soul, classic rock, R&B and funk. He was proud to pass this love of music down to his children.

He was a passionate fan of all sports and a die-hard Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Tigers and UCLA Bruins fan. An avid basketball player himself, he fostered a love of sports in his children; he thoroughly enjoyed coaching some of his children’s sports teams and attended every game he could.
Auston will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who were touched by his good-natured soul.

He is survived by his beloved father, Philip Dimitry; his loving wife, Eileen Dimitry; his children, Mia, Patrick and Charlotte; his mother-in-law, Maureen Ranonis Mullane; his sister-in-law, Regina Tucker (Paul); his dear aunts, Elizabeth Anton (Eric) and Judy Auston (Gregg Gagnon); Dorothy Dimitry; his uncle, Paul Dimitry (Colleen), his uncle-in-law, Thomas Ranonis (Sharon); and his cousins, Greg Dimitry, John Dimitry, Kasey Gagnon (Daniel), and Kristofer Anderson (Jennifer).

A Mass was held Oct. 11 at St. James Church in Red Bank. He will be buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Middletown. A celebration of life will be held Oct. 17 in Jackson, Michigan.
