Barbara Ellen Kiernan

Barbara Ellen (Johnson) Kiernan passed away peacefully in the arms of her sister, Christine, at Riverview Medical Center Oct. 30, 2025.

Barbara was born Jan. 4, 1968, in Brooklyn. She was Christine’s partner in crime. They were the closest sisters can be; they could never be far apart from one another. She was also the greatest source of laughter (and pain).

Barbara loved going out socializing, dancing, singing (even though she couldn’t carry a tune), and loved being out on the water fishing, swimming and sunbathing. She loved trips to Atlantic City, but most of all, she loved just being with her sister and driving her crazy.

Barbara had the biggest heart and best intentions. She would do and give anything she had to help anybody, even her last penny. Her generosity was as big as her heart.

Her family will cherish all the great memories of growing up in Brooklyn, running the streets with best friends and crazy, fun shenanigans. Barbara would want her friends and family to keep living life to the fullest, and so they will honor her by sharing every fun and embarrassing story and holding their loved ones close.

Barbara is survived by her loving mother, Mary Johnson; her beloved sister Christine Johnson Mazzarino; niece Danielle Marie, the light of her life and pride and joy; loving nieces Jennifer and Kimberly; the “grandkids” Joseph Patrick Jr. (JoeJoe), Noah and Fiona; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who hold her dear to their hearts.

Barbara was predeceased by her father Edward Johnson; her nephew Joseph Patrick, whom she loved as her own child; and her “son,” her constant companion who gave her unconditional love, her cat Christopher, whom she loved so much. Barbara was completely distraught when he passed suddenly in her arms earlier this year.

As per her wishes, final arrangements were private. There will be a gathering for a Celebration of her Life to be announced at a later time.
