Wallace Schouler Barrett, 90, of Vero Beach, Florida and Nantucket, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully Feb. 19 after a long battle with cancer. His daughters and wife surrounded him.

Wallace was born Oct. 31, 1928 in Glen Ridge. He was a first lieutenant, stationed in the Far East, where he married his wife Joyce (Wright) of 65 years in Tokyo. He was aide-de-camp to Gen. Zimmerman. Previous to that position, he was assistance conference director for Air Proving Ground Command at Eglin Air Force Base in western Florida.

Wallace graduated from Trinity Pawling in 1948 and Trinity College in 1952, where he was active in football, basketball and tennis. He was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

Wallace worked for Davis Dorland, an insurance brokerage in New York City, and Boynton Brothers in New Jersey before establishing his independent business.

He was an avid tennis player and loved the ocean, which permeated every thread in his life.

Wallace is survived by his wife Joyce of Vero Beach, Florida. He is also survived by three daughters, Alison B. Abbott of Newton, Massachusetts; Adrian B. Proll of Weston, Massachusetts; and Elizabeth B. Dougherty of Beverly, Massachusetts. He has three grandchildren.
