Mary Jane Barron, a longtime resident of Monmouth County, died of natural causes Nov. 6. She was born May 30, 1922 in Elizabeth to Edward Lane Bouton and Katharine Church Bouton.

Mary Jane graduated from The Vail-Deane School in Elizabeth in 1940. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a communications specialist. She married Henry B. Barron Jan. 4, 1947. The Barrons resided in Holmdel, Fair Haven and Rumson. At the time of her death she was a resident of Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls.

A longtime member of St. George’s-by-the-River Church in Rumson, she was the first woman to be elected Warden of the church. In addition to being very active in the church, she enjoyed gardening, tennis and spending time on the beach in Sea Bright. She was an avid bridge player.

She is survived by their three children, Susan Barron Hodgson of Manassas, Virginia, Henry B. Barron Jr. of Denver, North Carolina, and Katharine Barron Hosser of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; as well as five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, her brother Edward L. Bouton Jr. of Shelburne, Vermont and her sister Katharine Bouton Lloyd of Middletown.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at St. George’s-by-the-River Episcopal Church, Rumson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. George’s.

Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
