Bern Yahara

Bern “BoBo” Yahara died peacefully at home Sept. 11, 2023, after a battle with liver cancer.

Bo, also known as the “Polack,” was a lifelong commercial fisherman out of Port Monmouth who lived life to the fullest. He loved the simple things: talking to and texting his friends; morning coffee with Squarehead and other friends; stocking bones and treats for visiting dogs; tinkering with Condo John, Bruce and all the other regulars who stopped by the dock; planting flowers; and decorating skeletons and signs for every holiday.

He loved traveling with family and friends and treasured the many wonderful trips to Key West, Cabo, Florida, London, Ireland, Hawaii, Greece, Portugal, and so many more places.

Bobo loved when his daughter Nicole and grandchildren visited from London. He loved Sunday dinners with his grandchildren from Fair Haven and hosting family gatherings and parties on his porch.

A practical joker with a quick wit and a big smile, he could always be counted on for a laugh or a helping hand. His warm heart and kind and generous spirit will be missed.

Thank you to the wide circle of friends and family who checked on him over the last months. Your kindness and friendship meant the world to him.

Bo is survived by his wife Eileen; his daughter Nicole (Aly); sons John, Justin and Luke; stepson Hal (Emily); his beloved grandchildren, Zara, Kai, Athena, Hal, Kieran and Leonia; his brother Carl (Roberta); sisters Regina (Cliff) and Barbara (Mike); and brother-in-law Danny.

Bo was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Helen, his sister Mary and his son Matthew.

Rest in peace Bobo you will be forever missed.

Family and friends were invited to a Memorial Gathering Sept. 19 at Scott & Kedz Home for Funerals in Belford. A service concluded the evening.
